Phase 1... Almost Complete!!!

The month of November and the beginning of December have passed quickly for us and to highlight all that has been accomplished in "Phase 1" of our Earthship build process (see this blog post for the full list), we decided it was time for an update on our progress!
  • Purchase a 40 ft. shipping container and have it delivered to the land CHECK!

  • Bring all of the items that have already been donated to the land and place in shipping container 1/5th of the way CHECKED (approximately 5 more truck loads to go...)
  • Re-roof the garage at our current home to prepare it to be rented CHECK!
  • Finish designing our Earthship (Draft 1) in Google SketchUp partially CHECK!... see below... yippee!!!

  • This particular draft doesn't include the electrical wiring as it makes the document difficult to follow and isn't entirely accurate as it was botched a bit in transferring it to a picture format for purposes of sharing it... however, you get the idea!
  • Send our first draft design to our consultants to review) CHECK!
  • Revise Earthship design as needed (to be completed after meeting with architect on 12/6/2013)
  • Have our Earthship design reviewed by an architect and/or engineer if needed (appointment scheduled for this afternoon with a family friend who is an architect who offered to give us some advice on our design thus far... hopefully the roads aren't too icy for us to make this appointment!)
  • List our rental property for sale... (FYI: it is a charming 2 bedroom, 1 bath home near the Oregon District, University of Dayton, etc. that will be aggressively priced for the Dayton, OH area... message me if you're interested!) CHECK!

  • Click here for the listing information for our charming, historic home for sale... only listed for $37,500!!!

  • Living Room
    Dining Room
    Entry/ Living Room
Retro Kitchen... My favorite part of this house!
    Breakfast Nook
    Front Bedroom
    Back Bedroom
    Bathroom
    Full Basement
I must say, I'm so ridiculously proud of our progress so far and am optimistic about the months to come!  The next steps involve submitting our building permit application to Greene County as well as submitting our "beneficial use of tires" application to the EPA for approval.  Once these steps are completed, we will be moving on to fix up the micro-cabin to move in to in April 2014 :).
